I received a gift of a small tabletop zen garden with a rake one day and enjoyed “playing in the sand.” When others saw it on my desk at work, they were moved to pick up that rake and play. Being a creative person, I thought it might be fun to recreate one of those gardens as what I like to call a sandscape. At first, I used a wooden picture frame, taking out the content and making a bottom out of thin plywood. After painting this container, I filled it with play sand, strategically placed a couple of stones and a piece of driftwood and then constructed a rake out of wooden dowels. Before long I was seeking out picture frames to repurpose as a sandscape container as well as other decorative containers that had potential. I began going to craft fairs with my sandscapes, and sandscaper.net was born. andy@sandscaper.net
